La Mirada Students bring home Gold!

During Spring Break, while most of us were maximizing our time off, Mr. Brent Tuttle, Mr. Derek Wood, Mrs. Andrea Wood, Mrs. Lori Marshall, Mrs. Debra Moreno, and Mr. Opper,  were busy. These teachers took a group of 46 students to compete at Skills USA.  Students represent the various Academies and Pathways at La Mirada High School. These programs include ACE Academy, APPLE Academy, PLTW Engineering Academy, Medical Pathway, and Welding.

Skills USA is a forum in which students compete in Career and Technical Skills. This includes presentations on current topics, submission of welding projects, and presentations to compete for contracts (Similar to a real world meeting in which companies propose ideas to win contracts.), Health Occupations and Mechatronics . There were over 6000 competitors in 98 different events.

The La Mirada Students took home 10 gold medals, 7 silver medals and 11 bronze medals. Congratulations to these students, and thank you to our teachers for their endless hours of support of students.
